Maricopa County Board of Supervisors proclaims…
The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors have proclaimed April 5, 2014 “Maricopa County Fix.Adopt.Save. Awareness Day.” The proclamation is in recognition of the innovative collaboration between eight Valley animal welfare groups and their dedication to help animals throughout Maricopa County.
In April 2013, The Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust and PetSmart Charities announced they would invest $4 million dollars for the Fix.Adopt.Save. campaign.
“This outstanding three-year program sponsored by the Pulliam Trust and PetSmart Charities aims to provide 44,000 low-cost and free spay/neuter surgeries to Valley pet owners; increase adoption and fostering of shelter pets; and raise public awareness about the importance of adopting and spaying/neutering pets,” said Maricopa County Chairman Denny Barney.
During the first year of the Fix.Adopt.Save. campaign, participating animal welfare groups saw a 5% decrease in the number of animals surrendered to shelters and a 14% decrease in the number of euthanasias. Spay/neuter efforts for owned animals are above goal, as is the number of kittens sent to foster homes.
